Now I know why people choose to buy a Porsche! It started with a purchased ticket to Depeche Mode's concert in Rome and my refusal to fly with RyanAir. The time in between and the fact that I was soon sitting with my friend Benny in a red Porsche 997 Turbo with the nose pointed in a southern direction felt very short. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Porsche has an old concept of building its 911 models from the outside with a tail-hung boxer engine. This gives the car a special character and behavior on the road, something that Porsche has managed to master with the tips of their fingers. The car I have at my disposal for a dream trip for many is a well-equipped bright red 997 Turbo with a manual transmission. With the navigator set to Rome, it doesn't take long before the Autobahn stretches out in front of us and we can note top speeds of over 300 km\/h. Of course, it is not as stable as many other supercars and you have to hold the steering wheel a little extra hard as the nose has a tendency to become quite light at speeds above 200 km\/h. But it is possible to drive incredibly fast in a Porsche Turbo and few keep up! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since there are 2 of us and we will be away for a little over a week and my camera equipment will also be with us, we are quite happy for the two pilot seats in the back of the car. So it's no problem to pack what you want on the trip and also know that a couple of flatbeds and a few bottles will fit on the way home across the German border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We cross Germany in just over 5 hours and stop at a road hotel. The following day beautiful, winding mountain roads through Austria and Northern Italy await before the straight fine autostrada stretches in Italy. One can easily understand why this is where the super sports cars began to be built. On the winding mountain roads, the Turbo sits like a sticker on the road and it's lovely to hear the boxer six gurgling its characteristic sound in the rear, Porsche has a very personal sound on its cars and you can hear it from miles away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once down in Rome was the first time I began to doubt whether it was such a good idea to bring such a nice car to such a city. On every other street corner someone was filling out a claim for having run over or been hit by someone. But I think thanks to the fact that the car was in the main country itself because red cars in particular made people pay extra attention to the car and kept a safe distance. Regardless of where we drove, you felt that all eyes fell on the car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fantastic Depeche Mode concert later, we found ourselves in the coastal town of Viareggio, where many of the yacht yards are located, including Benetti and Perini Navi. The city belongs to the Italian Riviera and expensive sports cars are something you see daily. In the evening, we got to experience a different kind of queue for an indoor venue and how you can get snubbed because of your appearance. However, this did not happen at the entrance, but at the entrance to the parking lot, where a man dressed in a suit stood and waved in or refused cars to enter. We were of course waved in and welcomed with a smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since we were in the mecca of supercars, a few factory visits were of course booked (coming in the upcoming CS Home), including Lamborghini. During the visit, we parked a little nonchalantly outside the main entrance and it was not fully appreciated by everyone, a man in a black guard suit came up to us and made the comment -Nice car, wrong color, wrong district before he saw us move the Porsche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a couple of lovely days on the Italian west coast, it was time to head home and north. And the way home was of course via the N\u00fcrburgring, which is now the ring I prefer before a wedding ring. This would be my first ride on the Nordslingan with a Porsche and I had longed for this. When you're at the N\u00fcrburgring, it's easy to understand why Porsche is so incredibly overrepresented there. If you run out of brake pads, you can go into the next-door supermarket and buy a liter of milk and a couple of Porsche pads, because spare parts for Porsche are so common. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the first time my friend was there and I should have reacted to the second batch of scrambled eggs at breakfast. We he just half a lap on the sometimes quite nasty Nordslingan with its hidden crests and sharp curves. When he told me to take it easy because otherwise he would throw up, I didn't take it too seriously, but it was only when his cheeks looked like a squirrel that had been collecting nuts for a whole day that I understood that it was serious. 2 seconds later he hung over a duck rail and let the whole breakfast come out again. After I was dropped off by Benny at Gr\u00f6ne H\u00f6lle, I got a couple of nice laps with the Turbo and one of them I traveled against a Nissan GTR (test coming in CS Hemma in the fall). Great fun and should be done by everyone who has the opportunity and should be mandatory if you owned a Porsche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
