In September 2025, I travelled to Italy to visit and test drive cars at Maserati<\/a>, Ferrari<\/a> and Pagani<\/a>. I had booked a small, simple hotel north of Modena. The factory visits and test drives were scheduled from Wednesday to Friday, but I flew down on Sunday to have a few extra days to enjoy the Italian sun, food - and of course a glass of wine or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After my motorbike accident in 2022 and the heart muscle inflammation the following year, I try to move as much as possible to get back to where I was before the accident. You're not twenty anymore, as they say. If the hotel has a gym, I work out there, otherwise it's longer walks. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't have a gym, so I went for a long Sunday walk in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On my way back to the hotel, I passed through an industrial area behind the building. Suddenly I saw an amazing sculpture of a classic Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa outside a workshop. On the facade it said Bacchelli & Villa<\/a>. I took some pictures, posted them on my Instagram story and immediately started googling the company. I quickly realised that I had stumbled upon something very special - one of Italy's most legendary restoration workshops. In the post, I briefly wrote about the discovery and tagged Bacchelli & Villa, and just a moment later their official Instagram account had shared my photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I sent a message, telling them who I was and why I was in Modena, and after a few short messages back and forth, I received a warm welcome - and an appointment to visit Bacchelli & Villa the following Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is located in the small municipality of Bastiglia, just a few kilometres from the heart of Ferrari's kingdom. Bacchelli & Villa was founded in the early 1970s by Franco Bacchelli and Roberto Villa - cousins with a shared passion for classic Italian sports cars. Franco Bacchelli began his career as an apprentice to Piero Drogo, a legendary coachbuilder in Modena, where he learnt the basics of panel moulding and metalwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today Bacchelli & Villa is run by Mattioli Automotive Group<\/a>, which continues to develop its business in the same spirit of tradition, precision and craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, Bacchelli & Villa took on simpler jobs, but their craftsmanship quickly earned them the trust of the big names. Soon they were working with Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati, and today they are internationally recognised for their meticulous work in restoring cars to their original condition. Over the years, more than 400 full restorations have been completed - including a Ferrari 275 GTB\/4 once owned by Steve McQueen, and several Ferrari 250 GTO chassis, including chassis number 4675, one of only 36 built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes Bacchelli & Villa unique is their combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern precision technology. On the workshop floor, the original wireframes and hand tools from the 1960s are still used, alongside modern measuring instruments and advanced painting systems. Passion and perfection meet here - where every rivet, weld and panel is a tribute to Italian automotive art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I visited Bacchelli & Villa, there were two - not one - Lamborghini Countach under restoration. One, the purple one, belonged to Simon Kidstone<\/a> - a British car dealer, auctioneer and advisor specialising in classic and exclusive collector cars. He is the founder of Kidston SA<\/a> in Geneva. The second Countach, previously sold by Simon, underwent a complete restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to Simon Kidstone's Lamborghini Countach - the one they had sold - there was also a Ferrari Dino standing next to Simon's purple Countach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the other room was a Ferrari 275 P that underwent a more extensive restoration. In the same room there were also several other cars that were restored to almost better than new condition - including a Ferrari 250 GT LWB TdF and a Ferrari 275 GTS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An amazing sight, I must say, and an impressive work by Bacchelli & Villa on the cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day, a very special Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta TdF passed by, which turned out to be one of Simon's cars. I got in touch with Simon, and now we are discussing finding time for a meeting, an interview and a photo shoot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a true car enthusiast, Bacchelli & Villa is not just a workshop - it's a living museum where automotive history is preserved. A place where the soul of a Ferrari or Lamborghini is given new life. That I happened to pass by there, just a few streets behind my hotel, seems in retrospect almost too incredible to be true.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
