The bumpy shape in relation to the GLC 63’s speed resources brings to mind the myth of the bumblebee’s ability to fly, which is said to speak against the laws of nature. But the fact that the new Mercedes AMG GLC Coupé 63s is fast is nothing to doubt after test driving it.
The segment of sporty SUVs has absolutely exploded and the latest among these seemingly somewhat clumsy cars in terms of design are the coupe versions. First up was BMW with its X6 model and closely followed by Mercedes with its GLE.
The heart, a V8 engine of 4 liters with twin turbo units
Of course, both brands released performance versions of these with the suffix M at BMW and AMG at Mercedes. After the X6, BMW released the smaller sibling with the designation X4 which is available as the X4 M and Mercedes of course followed with the GLC which now comes with the AMG addition.
The heart of the GLC 63s is a 4 liter V8 engine with twin turbo units. The power generated from this machine is a whopping 510 horsepower and 700 Newton meters of torque.
This accumulation of power is transported via a 9-speed gearbox to all wheels and means that the sprint from standstill to 100 takes place in just 3.8 seconds. If you opt for the AMG Driver’s Package, the speedometer will stop at 280 kilometers per hour, the electronic stop is otherwise normally at 250 km/h.
Something Mercedes have always been incredibly good at is making the vocals out of the pipes in the back sound better than most other car brands
It is usually said that the turbo unit destroys the sound from engines, especially V8 engines. For example, BMW has not succeeded at all with the sound of its turbocharged V8s which sound more like tuned Subaru cars.
The sound from the AMG GLC 63s, on the other hand, is a delight for the ears and the mind. Raw and hard with elements of the sound that comes from Nascar cars.
The AMG GLC 63s is equipped with a number of driving programs that are available on a switch where you would normally think the gear lever is between the seats.
The shifter is now instead a lever on the right side of the steering wheel. On the control with the text Dynamic, you can choose between Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Race modes.
There is also a mode called ”Individual” which gives you the opportunity to compose the various parameters for the engine, gearbox, suspension and steering yourself.
A new type of intelligent four-wheel drive means that all power, if needed, can be distributed to the rear tires, making the AMG GLC 63s 100% rear-wheel drive.
However, this cannot be influenced by yourself, but takes place automatically when necessary. But you will feel it once it happens, that a car of this shape and size behaves more like a small and tight sports car is a nut almost as hard to crack as how it is possible for the bumblebee to be able to fly.
