The race between the car companies to present the sportiest and most performance-filled cars never seems to end. Obviously no exception for a brand like Mercedes Benz, which in many cases has been a leader in this area. In 2013, the model CLA was presented, which was a sedan version of the A-Class, a model with a history that deserves its own article. In 2015 came the cheeky Shooting Break version of the CLA and now in 2019 it’s time for the update to generation two.

The new generation has a more mature look. All details have been refined and now feel more complete. Above all, the rear part with the lights has received a big change, the new lights at the back are slimmer and have a better design than those on the previous generation. The front and grill have now also received the new design and style, where the grill is slightly forward, which gives an aggressive look.

This is a car that will make you smile

The color combination of black and orange that the test car had and made it extra eye-catching was due to a design called ”Edition Orange Art”. Details such as the front and rear lip around the exhaust pipes and on the outer edge of the rims are marked in orange. In the interior, all seams are in orange as well as lines in the edges of the panels in the interior. Extremely tasteful and gives the car a very sporty and cool look!

That the car wants to convey a sporty attitude is not only done through the aforementioned color combination. Even the large rims, an extra skirt package and above all the cupped seats covered in alcantara speak a clear language about what this car would like to say. When you get into the CLA 250 and close the door, it’s like zipping up a perfectly fitting leather biker jacket. The CLA 250 has small windows all around, but you still see everything without problems from the seat. Everything fits tight but without feeling cramped. There is surprisingly plenty of space even in the back seat of the CLA 250 despite its size.

The engine in the CLA 250 has 211 horsepower. As mentioned above, there are already two AMG versions of the CLA, 35 and 45, where the CLA 45 has a whopping 421 horses. All of these models have four-wheel drive. However, let’s return to the car we test drove and which this article is about. Enough that horsepower figures can be blinding, but do you really need that much power in such a small car? Of course, that is a question that must be up to everyone to answer.

However, what we can say after a day with the CLA 250 is that this is a car that makes you smile. It’s incredibly fun to drive and literally feels like a little go-kart. Thanks to its format and the four-wheel drive, it is incredibly easy to handle. If you also put it in sport mode, a damper opens up so the engine growls a little extra. You enjoy behind the wheel on the winding roads in southern Germany. With the day’s experience in hand, it can only be stated that the CLA 250 is a fantastic car that both works for everyday life and also when you want to hug curves on a free holiday. Of course, we promise to come back with a test drive soon on both the A 35 and CLA 45, but until then, we’ll be more than fine with the CLA 250.
