eCarExpo 2026: Electric vehicles, premieres and the future of automotive technology
eCarExpo 2026 is back at Stockholm Fair, and for the third time I visited the fair to see what the car manufacturers had to show off. I was here both 2024 and 2025, And after last year's financial problems, it was gratifying to see that the event could once again be held. There were plenty of interesting cars to look at. From the futuristic Tesla Cybercab and the huge Cybertruck to the Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Coupé, the Alpine A390 and the spectacular Denza Z9GT. At the same time, it was hard not to notice that several major European car manufacturers were missing. Audi, BMW, Volkswagen and Porsche are just a few examples of brands that I would have loved to see in person. For me, a car show is not just about reading technical specifications or looking at new models. It is also about the opportunity to actually get close to the cars, study the details and meet the people behind them. Although more and more news is now presented digitally, I still think that the physical car show serves an important function.
Tesla at eCarExpo 2026: Cybercab and Cybertruck
Two of the most eye-catching vehicles at eCarExpo 2026 came from Tesla. The futuristic Cybercab, developed for fully autonomous taxi traffic, and the enormous Cybertruck with its angular stainless steel body. In March 2024, I became the first Swedish motoring journalist to test drive Tesla's highly acclaimed pickup truck. During a trip to Miami, I managed to connect through a Facebook group with a Cybertruck owner who generously loaned me his car for two days. This gave me the opportunity to do a proper test drive and really get to know the car. The Cybertruck impressed me with its acceleration, comfort, and four-wheel drive. This resulted in reports for five different publications, including Auto Motor & Sport, Motor, Voyage, and CarsCollection.com.
In August of this year, I was once again in the USA and had the opportunity to try out with the skateboarding legend. Tony Magnussons My own Cybertruck in California. His car was equipped with Tesla's Full Self-Driving, FSD, version 14.3.6. Experiencing for myself how the car handled the driving was incredibly impressive. Tony also demonstrated how the car could drive up to us from a parking spot using the Summon function. This gave me a completely different understanding of how far Tesla has come with its automated driving technology. The Cybertruck is in many ways a strange car, but at the same time incredibly fascinating. Unfortunately, it is still not officially sold in Europe, which makes it especially fun that Swedish visitors were able to see it up close. Next to it stood the Cybercab, Tesla’s vision for the future of autonomous taxi traffic. It is a car that lacks both a steering wheel and pedals and is intended to transport its passengers completely autonomously. Technically, of course, it is interesting, but personally I find it difficult to get particularly enthusiastic about the idea of a car that I am not allowed to drive myself. For me, driving is still a big part of the experience.

Hyundai at eCarExpo 2026: : IONIQ 3, IONIQ 5 N and STARIA Cargo
Hyundai was one of the manufacturers that had invested heavily in eCarExpo 2026. The big news was the IONIQ 3, a compact electric car that aims to make the brand’s electric model range accessible to a wider audience. With a claimed range of up to 497 kilometers according to the WLTP and an advertised price starting from 344,900 kronor, it could become an interesting option for many Swedish car buyers. I think Hyundai has made an impressive journey over the past few years. The brand has gone from being primarily associated with affordable everyday cars to offering some of the most interesting electric models on the market. On my image of the new IONIQ 3, you can also see The IONIQ 5 N in the background. It is a car that I have personally tested and that really showed me that an electric car can be both entertaining and engaging to drive. The test drive can, of course, be read on CarsCollection.com.
Another new product was the transport vehicle STARIA Cargo. The futuristic-shaped transport vehicle offers a cargo space of up to 5.4 cubic meters and space for three Europallets. Hyundai states a range of up to 450 kilometers and thanks to 800-volt technology the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. These are of course interesting figures for craftsmen and other entrepreneurs who need a transport vehicle in their daily work. Hyundai had also invited the craft duo A Short One and a Long One, They are well-known from social media. They were there to talk about transport vehicles and electrification from the perspective of artisans. One of them also ended up on my photo in front of STARIA Cargo.

RenaultTwingo and Renault 4 E-Tech Electric
Renault had one of the most charming new products at eCarExpo 2026 in the form of the new Twingo E-Tech Electric. The original Twingo was introduced back in 1992 and quickly became popular thanks to its playful design and clever use of space. Now the model is returning in electric form, and it is clear that Renault has drawn a lot of inspiration from the original. The round shapes and the characteristic headlights make the car immediately recognizable as a Twingo. The new model is 3.79 meters long, has an electric motor with 80 horsepower and a declared range of up to 263 kilometers according to the WLTP. It may not be the car for those who regularly drive long stretches of motorway, but as a city car it could be really interesting. Renault is also a brand that I have driven many different models from over the years. Among other things Rafale, Captur, Mégane R.S, Zoe and the new one Renault 5 E-Tech Electric. I also have experience with the older Twingo. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric was a car that I really enjoyed driving when I tested it. Renault has managed to combine a nostalgic design with modern technology in a way that feels both thoughtful and charming. I hope the new Twingo can offer the same feeling.
At the fair, Renault also showed the new Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, the modern electric interpretation of the classic Renault 4, which many of you will remember as the Laban. Just like with the Renault 5, the manufacturer has taken inspiration from the original, but this time it’s a slightly larger and more practical car with clear SUV elements. I think it’s fun that Renault dares to revive its classic models and give them new life with modern technology. The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is also on my list of upcoming test drives, and hopefully it won’t be long before I get behind the wheel.

AlpineA290 and A390
Alongside Renault was Alpine, which showcased two very interesting models. The first was the A290, a sportier version of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric. With up to 220 horsepower and an acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in about 6.4 seconds, it is a car that looks really entertaining on paper. As I said, I have already tested the Renault 5 and find it to be a very successful small electric car. Therefore, I am naturally curious to see what Alpine has managed to achieve with the A290.
The larger A390 attracted even more attention. Alpine describes the model as a Sport Fastback, and it combines five seats with performance typically associated with significantly more streamlined sports cars. In its most powerful version, the A390 GTS, it has three electric motors with a combined output of 470 horsepower. Acceleration from zero to 100 is expected to take 3.9 seconds. The car also features an advanced system for actively distributing power between the rear wheels, which should contribute to both better cornering and a more engaging driving experience. I have previously had the opportunity to test drive it. Alpine A110 together with Toyota GR Yaris, Two cars that truly put driving pleasure at the center of attention. It was an experience that gave me a good impression of what Alpine stands for. Therefore, I am particularly curious about how the manufacturer has managed to convey that feeling to their new electric models. Both the A290 and the A390 are on my list of upcoming test drives, and it will be really interesting to see if they can deliver the same driving pleasure.

MazdaCX-6e and Mazda6e
At eCarExpo 2026, Mazda showed off the new CX-6e, an electric SUV that I had actually had the opportunity to get acquainted with at a preview in Haninge. That time I also wrote about the car on CarsCollection.com. Now that the model was shown to a larger audience at eCarExpo, more people had the opportunity to study it in more detail. Mazda has had a clear design philosophy for a long time, and this is also evident in the brand’s new electric models. I have previously tested-driven the Mazda6e and written about it on CarsCollection.com. The next model to arrive is the CX-6e, which I will be testing on October 26, right after my trip to Italy where I am currently located. It will be interesting to see how the larger SUV model is received on the road.

Mercedes-BenzC-Class, GLB and Mercedes-AMG GT Four-door Coupé
Mercedes-Benz had several interesting models at eCarExpo 2026, including the new electric C-Class, GLB, and the eye-catching Mercedes-AMG GT four-door coupe. The white AMG GT was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the stand, with its low, sporty body and distinctive front. Alongside it were several of the brand's more practical models, including the C-Class and GLB. It's an interesting contrast that shows how Mercedes-Benz is focusing on both everyday comfort and electric performance cars.
Over the years, I have tested several of Mercedes-Benz's electric models, including: CLA 250+, G 580 with EQ Technology, AMG EQE 53 and EQC. It has been interesting to follow how quickly technology has developed and how different manufacturers’ models can feel behind the wheel. Furthermore, several new test drives await ahead. First, I will drive the GLB 350, then the GLC 400, and finally the Mercedes-AMG GLC 53. This will be a good opportunity to compare how Mercedes-Benz works on comfort, technology, and driving pleasure across different parts of the model range.

Bilia: Polestar and Volvo
The Polestar 4 SUV was shown at Bilias booth; it has now had its rear windshield replaced, something I previously criticized in my article about the car. Polestar 4 on CarsCollection.com. There were also new ones here The Volvo EX60, a car that I had the opportunity to get to know during the international test drive in Barcelona Earlier this summer. Another Volvo that caught the attention was EX90 with a tent. This gave the large electric SUV a distinct feel of outdoor life, and not least the children seemed to appreciate it. Several climbed up the steps next to the car to peek into the tent and see what it looked like up there.

Lynk & CoElectric 02 and the plug-in hybrid 08
Lynk & Co showcased, among other things, the all-electric 02, a compact crossover with 272 horsepower and a range of up to 445 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. The plug-in hybrid is also visible in the background. 08, which I have previously tested and reviewed on CarsCollection.com. In November, I will also visit Lynk & Co's office in Gothenburg to learn more about their future plans.

XPENGG6, G9 and L03
XPENG showed, among other things, the SUV models G6 and G9, but also the L03, which can be seen in my photo from the trade show. The Chinese brand is investing heavily in technology, fast charging and advanced driver assistance systems. It is fascinating how quickly XPENG has established itself in the Swedish market, and it will be interesting to follow the brand’s continued development.

BYD and Denza at eCarExpo 2026: From Dolphin to Z9GT
At eCarExpo 2026, BYD showed off the orange-colored Dolphin G DM-i, but it was especially the vehicles from the group’s premium brand Denza that caught the eye. The green Denza Z9GT was one of the most spectacular cars at the fair. With three electric motors, up to 1,156 horsepower, and an acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in about 2.7 seconds, it is about performance of absolute top class. The price tag is 1,469,900 kronor, so it is hardly a car for the average car buyer.
Next to it stood the yellow Denza BAO 5, a significantly more off-road-oriented plug-in hybrid with around 544 horsepower and an acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour of about 4.8 seconds. It is fascinating to see how quickly the Chinese manufacturers have developed. Just a few years ago, BYD was a relatively unknown name for many Swedish car buyers. Now the group is showing cars that both technically and in terms of performance challenge established European manufacturers.

eCarExpo 2026: Where were the major European manufacturers?
One thing that caught my attention was the absence of several of the major European manufacturers. Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, and Porsche were not present, even though they are all investing heavily in electrification. For me as a visitor and as a journalist, this raises questions about how they view the value of meeting the audience physically at a trade show. After the financial problems in 2025, it is especially gratifying that eCarExpo has been able to return. I sincerely hope that the fair can continue to develop and that even more manufacturers choose to participate in the future. Although several major car brands were absent, the show showed that eCarExpo has a lot of potential and that more and more manufacturers are choosing to participate in the future. Despite the absence of several major car brands, the show showed that eCarExpo has a lot of potential and that more and more manufacturers are choosing to participate in the future. eCarExpo 2026 that there is still great interest in experiencing the cars of the future up close. For even though future cars are becoming increasingly digital, there is still something special about experiencing them in reality.
